Berlin - Streetview

The neighbourhood

Most of the pictures in this series were taken in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg or Kreuzkölln. These are places I pass by daily or frequently. I never or rarely have time to take photos, I only take my camera with me when I go shopping. I ride my cargo bike slowly through the quiet, shady side streets between the weekly market and the organic food shop, stopping here and there to take a photo, in some places again and again. I'd like to take a picture of these streets - in my opinion the most beautiful in the city today - from a central vanishing point perspective along the road, but everything is parked up to the right and left. There are cars everywhere, and apart from being noisy and smelly and a threat to other road users, they are also an aesthetic problem. They spoil the cityscape. How some people can get upset about the creativity of graffiti, tags or posters instead is beyond me. Fortunately, traffic calming is progressing slowly.
